Step One: The Killing Kind (short)
A man is hunted down by two ex- cons who were recently released from a prison stint caused by his informant work ten years prior.
Step Two:
A man is hunted down by two ex- cons who were recently released from a prison stint caused by his informant work ten years prior. The two have decided to hunt the man, though they have not decided what to do with him once they obtain contact with him. The man’s lawyer sold him out to the tune of fifteen thousand dollars to release the name of the informer on their case from ten years ago. The two were convicted of second offense bank robbery, though their case omitted the death caused during the robbery due to circumstantial evidence. The man who turned them in used the money to open a landscaping business, which now, years later is thriving and has provided him with all of the trappings of an upstanding existence in society, leaving behind his criminal days.
When the recently released convicts catch up with their man, they take him hostage and consider the possibility of holding him for ransom playing off of his wife and kids, left with a three million dollar landscaping business. They consider whether they should take him south and kill him, burying him in the deserts in Baja. They also banter often about the possibility of holding him hostage for ten years, as long as they were held in prison, to repay him fully. When the cards fall, the captive man has learned enough about his captors to have them pinned for several more crimes committed inside of prison walls through couriers carried out during legal consultations. Several of the criminal parties show up on the scene, and the man uses their drunken arrogance and carelessness one night to escape.
`Gathering his wits about him, the man rents a car and visits the spots where he has learned all of the loot from the other crimes has been hidden. He steals the dirty earnings and uses it to rehire the lawyer who originally flipped on him to inform once again. When the bad guys catch up with him at a roadside market, he is forced to shoot one of them, but not one of the original two. In the end, he comes clean with his wife, telling her about the deal ten years prior and what is happening now, and gets the two arrested not only for their new crimes, but for the killing of their consort. The man, satisfied by his take, settles back to enjoy and finds that he has left one loose end. His wife was the boyfriend of one of the men, and kills him at the end as they attempt to bury the loot down south in Baja.
